Raoul Hausmann

Austria–France, 1886–1971

Raoul Hausmann (Austria, 1886-France, 1971) was a key artist of the Dada movement in Berlin, known for his experimental work in photography, poetry and collage. He developed photomontage as a form of visual protest and political reflection, combining press images, typography and fragments of everyday objects to question reality and language. He also explored photography as an autonomous medium, with portraits, nudes and urban studies. His work is part of the collection of museums such as MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum in New York or the Tate Modern in London.
