Richard Long

United Kingdom, 1945

Richard Long (UK, 1945) is a fundamental artist of Land Art and contemporary sculpture. Since the late 1960s, he has been working with walks as an art form, intervening the landscape through minimal gestures, such as tracing lines or piling up stones. He documents these actions with photographs, maps and texts, establishing a dialogue between nature, time and geometry. His work reflects on movement, the human footprint and the direct experience of the environment. He represented the United Kingdom at the Venice Biennale in 1976 and his work is part of the collection of museums such as MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum in New York or the Tate Modern in London.
