A key publication in documentary photography promoted by photographer Lee Friedlander and journalist and editor Burt Wolf. They selected fifteen photographs by four influential authors in twentieth century photography and established a visual dialogue between different photographic approaches, consolidating itself as a reference work in the medium.
USA-Mexico, 1928-1984
Garry Winogrand (USA, 1928-Mexico, 1984) was one of the great references of 20th century street photography. He documented everyday life in the United States, especially in the 1960s and 1970s. His dynamic style and seemingly chaotic approach reveal social tensions, collective behaviors and individual gestures with a sharp critical eye. Winogrand explored chance and the energy of the instant, resulting in a vibrant and complex portrait of the American society of his time. His work is part of the collection of important museums such as MoMA and The Metropolitan Museum in New York or Fotomuseum Winterthur in Switzerland.
