Japan, 1933-2024
Eikoh Hosoe (Japan, 1933-2024) was a photographer known for his collaborations with writer Yukio Mishima and dancer Tatsumi Hijikata. He soon abandoned the documentary style that dominated postwar photography, adopting a more expressive and surrealistic language. He was a member of the VIVO collective and some of his works such as Barakei (“Ordeal by Roses”) or Kamaitachi consolidated him as a key figure of the Japanese avant-garde.
