Serie Towards the City
Yutaka Takanashi | 1974 Documents the urban sprawl of Tokyo in the 1970s. With a direct and realistic approach, it captures the contrast between the accelerated growth of the city and the vestiges of its past, reflecting the transformation of the urban landscape and its impact on daily life.

Yutaka Takanashi (Japan, 1935) was an influential Japanese photographer and one of the founders of the Provoke collective, key to the renewal of Japanese photography in the 1960s and 1970s. His work is characterized by a radical aesthetic, with blurred and contrasted images that reflect the confusion and speed of urban life in post-war Japan. In series such as Tokyoites and Towards the City, Takanashi documented the transformation of Tokyo with a critical and poetic eye. His work is part of the collection of important museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tate Modern in London and the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.
