It captures the moments of disinhibition, glamour and excess that defined the place, where celebrity and spontaneity merged. It reflects on the relationship between identity, spectacle and freedom in one of the most emblematic periods of the city.
USA, 1940
Tod Papageorge (USA, 1940) is an American photographer and a key figure in street photography. He was director of the photography program at Yale University School of Art for decades, training generations of photographers. His work documents urban life and the everyday, with a poetic approach. His work has been recognized with two Guggenheim Fellowships and two National Endowment for the Arts grants, and he has published several photobooks including Passing Through Eden: Photographs of Central Park and Studio 54.
