Takuma Nakahira | 1970s Documents urban life and social dynamics in Japan during the 1970s. With a direct and raw style, he captures fleeting moments of everyday life, focusing on the interaction between people and their environment. He reflects on the circulation of ideas, emotions and people in contemporary society, using photography to express the alienation and chaos inherent in modern life.
Japan, 1938-2015
Takuma Nakahira (Japan, 1938-2015) was an influential Japanese photographer, co-founder of the magazine Provoke, fundamental in the renewal of Japanese photography. His work is characterized by a break with traditional documentary photography, opting for a raw, immediate and sensory aesthetic. In his book For a language to come (1970) he questioned the relationship between image and language and in his project Circulation, he presented recently developed and enlarged images in the public space, as a response to his disenchantment in the 1971 Paris Biennial in which he participated.
